The Gigantic Hole in the Ceiling

For the record, I may have made my mom admit out loud that I had nothing to do with this particular water damage(I wont go into the flooding of the house Part 1, and its sequel Part 2…that’d take a post in itself) .  We’ve had workers in the house all week ripping out things in my parents bathroom…things like the sink…the shower…the toilet…the floor…You know, important things.  So somewhere during the ripping up of something, something when wrong and we developed a leak.  At first it was just a water spot.  The next day the plumber came and he made it worse….or better…I don’t know, I guess it might depend on how you look at it.  I say better because this time the house is leaking and it isn’t even remotely my fault!  Yep.  That thought alone gives me the warm fuzzies.

Small Leak

About an hour or so after the plumber left this started. If you look closely you can see the steady stream of water pouring out from it.

According to my dad the drain was misaligned, and so when the plumber was testing things and washing water down the drain it all collected in the ceiling.  Thus the tiny hole.  Except, eventually, it got bigger.

Like I said...bigger.

Like I said…bigger.

So now there’s a gigantic hole in the kitchen.  Unbelievably big.  I mean, so big that every time I walk into the kitchen I think wow, there’s a hole in the ceiling.  And its been there for most of the week now.  I should be over this.

The bathroom is coming along nicely, though.

Bathroom without anything in it.

It’s really impressive how fast they get things done.  We went from the bathroom looking like that to….

floor

having a very nice floor.  The shower went from not a shower to…

some of a shower to…

mostofashower

most of a shower.  Even the bathtub is coming along nicely.

And as of today there is grout.  I’ve been praying that these guys are like fairy godmothers and can bibity-bobity-boo it into completion.  I want my bathroom back.  Sharing isn’t fun.  It’s necessary, but it sucks.

Also, as of today, the door is back on its hinges.  Why is this important?  Well…first of all, it’s a little awkward to have to prop the door up on the frame.  We didn’t bother the other day, and, logically, Pele decided to go exploring.  I wish I had a picture.  I went in looking for him and he must have rubbed up against something because he was half black(he’s a black cat…this is normal) and half dusty gray/white…fantastic.  So I dusted him off, he got mad, and it really isn’t easy trying to clean off a cat whose trying to bop you upside the head.  It just isn’t.

The shower with grout gives me hope.  The bathtub not so much.  Not because it isn’t looking better and better, but because it’s still missing that side panel.

It says, look at me!  My drain leaks!  Wahoo!  That bathtub is enthusiastic.  Pele has been informed that he’s going to get to be the first to try it out…he smells kinda funky since his exploration in bathroom-renovation land.

Last but not least, and entirely unrelated to the bathroom, I really wanted to share the prettiest cake I’ve ever made with the world.

ReesesCake

It was Katie’s birthday last week (hooray!), and she requested chocolate peanut butter (surprise, surprise), so I found this recipe on the blog Tastes of Lizzy T and omg, sooo freaking delicious!!!!

Going to find some excuse to make that again.  I’m still dreaming about it.  Making myself hungry just thinking about it…oh dear.

I guess I’ll add some new photos once the bathroom is done and there isn’t a huge hole in the kitchen.  Hopefully next post will be wok seasoning part 3?  It was going to be last week and then that didn’t work out and then well…that poor wok never deserved to be set on fire and rusted…and I’m getting distracted.  Have a great week guys!

  1. Wow! Quite a project! I know how your mom prefers there not be holes in the ceiling because of water damage, so I hope all’s back to normal soon!

    • Yeah, she does. She was actually far less upset about it than we thought she’d be. The contractor people have promised to fix it, though, so that makes it a little better.

    • Thanks, Julie! Your piping looked so much more amazing than mine, but I think I managed to make it look pretty darn snazzy in the end. And obviously it tasted delicious. I’ll definitely be back on your blog trying out more things–it looks like you guys have sooo many more peanut butter chocolate concoctions that just have to happen!
